In the coming month, we will begin actively fundraising online for this trip. Flying 5 people to Guatemala doesn't come cheap and we are going to need a lot of friends and family to help us to take this trip.
Our first trip to Guatemala was in the summer of 2008. During that trip, Jaci and I were able to bring our then 7 year old son, Noah, to visit his missionary Aunt Lauren and have his eyes opened to the work that she did and have his heart opened to the kids that God's loving through the work of Mission Impact. The following summer we brought the entire family down for a trip. On both trips we spent time working with the kids at the schools through lessons, songs, and activities as well as conducting the all-important lice washes at the Proximos Pasos school in Santa Maria.
At this stage in the game, our agenda for the 2011 trip is completely up in the air. As anyone who has ever travelled internationally with young kids could tell you, our agenada is going to have to remain fluid throughout our trip.
That's where you folks come in. We need prayer. A LOT OF IT. We need prayer for safety and effectiveness as we seek to serve the Lord and these precious kids. We also need money.
As we are not going with a church group, but just as a family, we are not going through Mission Impact. That means that anyone who wants to donate to the trip will be donating directly to us. We certainly understand that that means any tax deductions that you would have been able to claim via a non-profit organization will be wiped away, but we're still believing that God will open the floodgates of support.
Financial support will be so very important for this trip because as a teacher, I don't get paid in the summer and finances are usually tight anyway. Your generosity will help us to serve the kids of the schools, expose our children to the work of the mission field, and allow us to be a blessing to Lauren and Mission Impact.
